She is ill at the moment with a heavy cold, and apparently it is her turn to write to you. Her sister Rika has died, she has been suffering from Parkinson's for many years so you could say it is a bit of a blessing.
Rika had one daughter Margit .Margit joined the Scientologists, and they have not been close ever since. It's amazing how religion can split a family.

We’re going through a tough patch here as Magnus’s mum has been diagnosed with a really aggressive cancer so we’re just waiting to see if it’s treatable, or if she’ll be dead within a month... L It’s going to be one or the other sadly... and with Chris (his dad) only dying of cancer just last year, it’s come as quite a blow to the whole family.
Tom tells me you’re on Amazon – so I went on to have a look and see you’ve got a couple of self-published short stories as well as something with Berwick Writers. Well done. How are you finding it? Are you selling much? I’ve tossed about with Self publishing my books for a while, but I know publishing houses and agents don’t as a general rule like self-publishing writers so I’ve been hanging back... (that and I’ve been so busy I’ve not had time to do the final drafts of anything!)
I won 2nd prize in my category for Mumpreneur 2012 this year so we’ve had some good news too! J Just waiting to see if that will generate any more business for me... probably not, but it’s nice kudos.

Sorry to hear about Magnus's family, they seem so young to suffer. Disturbing is both parents are carrying the genes susceptible for cancer which must be worrying for you both and worrying for your children. Knowing your family background can warn you of potential health problems. I think granny wanted to tell you about her family but she can not write fluently. She suggested i should write her stories down to sent to you and Hilary, but I told her I did not think any contact would be welcome.
I received a snotogram from Hilary, you probably know. She accused me of trying to kill her. Amazingly I woke one morning and decided to kill her. We never talked, argued, yet without cause I decided to commit murder! Even more amazing after failure I never attempted it again. I also accused her of tormenting her gay brothers, all done without talking to her, amazing telekinetic powers I seem to have!

If you are prepared to work at marketing and put yourself about you might get noticed. I opted for minimum royalties so need to sell over 1000 copies to get a payment. Although I do not get paid I also do not pay anything. What did you buy? what did you like?
The gnawed bone was a writing exercise set by a creative writing course where I had to take the character and write in a genre. The genre picked for me was a "who done it" luckily I did not get romance!
well done with Mumpreneur 2012 what ever that is. but if it means you can survive the recession all the better.

Yes, it’s worrying for us all. It’s lymphoma so I’m hoping it will be treatable, we’re just keeping my fingers crossed on that score.
Sadly it seems neither side of our family has good genes. Magnus’s parents suffer with cancer, and my side have dementia, CFS, rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoarthritis. !! Hey ho! Lots to look forward to! Still, at least I get the creative genes too – so there IS a plus side. J
Yes – I saw Hilary’s email – which is why I guessed you weren’t writing to me as I thought you had lumped us both into one and didn’t want anything to do with either of us. We ARE individuals you know... I have mentioned this before. We may be sisters, but we aren’t twins and we do think and feel differently about things. If I really wanted to know where you live I can just do a polling data search and find your home address, so I was sort of hoping you’d have trusted me enough by now. I have Granny’s postal address and I’ve respected her wishes and never visited, although I did offer to the last time she wrote lamenting that she wouldn’t see her great-grandchildren and she turned me down, primarily because she’d have nothing to do with me while Hilary wasn’t talking to her. I am NOT my sister’s keeper. I can’t be held responsible for her actions, just as the justice department wouldn’t imprison me for murder if Hilary decided to kill someone. Still...that’s my rant over.
I’ve not purchased any of your short stories, mainly because I don’t have an e-reader and don’t do e-books at all – but I did read the sample on them all. Some I recognise in their early stages and I think you might have sent at least one to me before, certainly the Viking one rings bells.
I can’t do romance either. I’ve been toying with actually writing a murder mystery novel as that seems to be where my expertise is so that might attract an agent, but I just don’t actually know enough about the police side of things to make it work, so it’ll have to be an amateur “Christie style” sleuth to work. That and I still like sci-fi the best and that’s really what I’d prefer to write. However, I do blog regularly with Sherlock which I suppose is pseudo-fictional as well. I even wrote a short story for the kids a while ago with the two fish. Iona’s taking it into school for book fair on Friday.
The recession hasn’t really effected the business at all as we were still setting up when it started, so we’ve just moved into the market where the gaps were. I’m actually more worried about what’ll happen when the recession is over as we might get too busy to cope. Most businesses fail at the end of a recession as they suddenly can’t cope with demand and their cashflow becomes problematic. So I’m trying to get prepared.
Stil... the kids are back to fighting and hitting each other again so I better sign off...

What the genes have install? My parents both have heart conditions. Grandad (Jim) died of a heart attack in 85 although it was aggravated by his smoking and type one diabetes. He had been diabetic since 58 and insulin dependant. I think the cause of his problems were due to his tour in Korea where he contracted malaria and another tropical disease. It was thought that his body attacked the pancreas and stopped it working.
Granny has a defective heart valve, and had an over active thyroid which has been killed off. She is now dependant on thyroxin among other things. 6 years ago she had a mini stroke and thinks that is the dementia she is suffering. I think her dementia stems from the treatment she received for a nervous breakdown. She was vallium and other experimental drugs dependant for twenty plus years. Her nervous breakdown was triggered by the death of her mother.
Granny was a bit of a wild young lady extremely sexually active both in and out of marriage. Her promiscuous behaviour was frowned upon by her parents. She never managed to heal the rift between her and her mother. When her mother died the opportunity had passed, she could not quite come to terms with all the lies and marital deceit. Eventually her conscience reacted and she had a total breakdown. I was eleven and would be kept up until the early hours while she confessed her adulterous affairs, explicitly with no holds barred. This obviously affect my education as I was constantly tired having to keep and eye on my father that frequently went into a comma, and the bizarre experiences of my mother.
Conscience is a terrible thing when subconsciously you continue doing what you know is wrong. Which is why I keep on telling you to tell the truth, just in case you have a conscience remaining.
Our relationship.
Yes I do appreciate you and Hilary are different and I have always tried to treat you equally, with love and attention. The way you have both responded to the grooming of Pauline and Jonathan differs. Hilary believes all, thinks I am the pits and wants nothing to do with me. That I can understand and it is consistent. Although I have never harmed her she does blame me for trying to kill her and some accusation made about sleeping with step brothers. As we seldom spoke, never argued, I find it disturbing that she accuses me of it. What she has not mentioned is the reason she stopped swimming and wore jeans at school. I thought she was pressurised to give up swimming because the boys were not doing it, and every one wore jeans. Allegedly she stopped swimming because she did not want to show her bruised body, and the reason for not wearing a skirt was the marks on her legs and thighs. This was news to me but I was told it by my staff. The information probably via Gowland and a true account from Hilary. I did not hear about the accusations of sexual abuse until 2003 some time after my bosses heard about it from David Dick a watch officer at Orkney. I wondered why I was audited frequently. A full Audit is such a stressful event that stations are Audited every 5 to 7 years with a recommendation that no one is audited less than every 5 years. I had 14 audits from 1995 to 2005. This was my employers applying stress and checking on all I did. The Coastguards could not admit they suspected me of paedophilia and incest, but continued to look for evidence and cuaase for dismissal. As you can see Hilary really hates me, and yet we never talked and the last time we spent time together was 1991. I had no hint of her hatred then.
As for you, it was not just Hilary that I was allegedly abusing and had previous in Rye when investigated by social services. I allegedly abused you frequently according to my staff. I also grievously attacked you, and sent you to work on a scooter in horrendous conditions. My recollections of the event differs slightly.

I had to drive Hilary in to Stromness to relieve you at the laundry. So the car would have to take few trips to Stromness. It was raining. Forecast to deteriorate so was a no brainer to drive you in. You argued, why I could not understand but you refused to be taken in by car. I told you to get in the car, and you let fly a torrent of abuse about how I should spent more time with the violent bitch up stairs. I slapped your face. I was wrong I had never smacked you before or after. I was wrong very very wrong. I later heard that I frequently forced to to drive in dangerous condition to Stromness, for which you gained much sympathy. It would appear that you intended to travel to Stromness by scooter to show what a beast I was. Now you not only went by scooter but was also violently attacked and force out the house. Much sympathy received.
I can not understand that someone that writes mystery crime games can not work out simple facts.
I feel I do not deserve children like you two. I tried my best to give you the childhood I never had, alas you had the childhood the wicked mind of the Martell's can imagine.
The damage done to my life is irreversible. When that damage was done, you had a close relationship with Pauline and her family. Now years after you still have that same closeness. Only a fool would open themselves up to the damage only spite can achieve. Yes you may be able to find me, and yes I may be a tad paranoid but that is the consequence.

You don't need a kindle to download a book it can be done with the computer. You download a Kindle App. Allegedly you can get loads of stuff from kindle including the newspapers and magazines. I still read books and like to hold paper
As for crime writing I get round it by going into the past or a foreign country. As an old fart I don't have far to go back and can clearly remember when coppers clipped you round the ear, had Blue phone boxes, no radios, and black cars with bells.
Sherlock is ? I assume not Holmes of Watson fame, that would be pushing plagiarism a bit too far.
I seem to be hooked on short stories at the moment when well enough to write. I assure you writing is very infrequent at the moment. I am attempting to go cold turkey on painkillers. It is a struggle. On a brighter note I have been told that ME affects the heart muscle and can reduce life expectancy by 20 years. Greta is 91 so using her as a guide that gives me a few more years yet. I feel as a life led it could have been better but I have at least saved the lives of a few thousand people, and been involved in many campaigns that have made a change. We no longer have lead in petrol, use CFC's, have a Scottish assembly, released a number of prisoners of conscience, and supported many charities. Just ending torture, and saving the honey bee to do.
Tomorrow I will feel better.

On one occasion I could not, and escaped locking myself in the toilet until the situation cooled. I passed you fleeing to the sanctuary of a locked door. A woman frequently abused does not call for her abuser when distressed.
- We had cross words when you tried to remove a mattress from the front room. Having slept on the floor or a scattering of cushions for many months, I was in no mood to remove a bit of comfort. Heart complaints as well eh? Oh well... at least Grandad is still going and fairly fit so maybe there’s hope for me yet... I think he’s turning 90 this year...
I see very little point in answering any accusations of what I may or may not have done via email. We’ve been over this face to face some years ago inGrimsby and I thought we had put it behind us and were trying to develop a relationship. I’m disappointed I was wrong.
I would like to hear more about the grandparents.

sorry for the delay having a bad patch with accute pain.

No. Nothing wrong with Tristan, he’s just a typical boy and not really interested in family history. J He’s big, boisterous but very loving. He’s more interested in living relatives then dead ones at the moment, whereas Iona is more interested in history. It always seems to me to be the women who go in for family tree stuff, so that was the only reason he didn’t get a mention. I know Magnus isn’t remotely interested, but his mother is. She’s go the Smedley family tree mapped back to some illegitimate royal thing way back when... which I think is in most people’s family trees by the sounds of it from those that I’ve heard about so far.
Sorry the pain is causing you bother. It’s not something people associate with CFS. Try and rest a bit if you can.

No questions so far with the history? if you type in Goggin on google you will find the history of the de Gogans where the name originated. I doubt if any one can be related to Richard or Milo either side of the bed. I think the Name Goggin was given to peasants belonging to the estates of De Gogan so luckily we retain a peasant lineage.

Some corrections for the last history Hoofhalla was a derogatory remark known in the family that has no meaning in English, but has a meaning of pig sty for cows. The real farm name is Waldhütte. The town they lived in was Kaldenkirchen not Galsenkirchen. This error came about when my mother tried to explain how difficult it was to get from the farm to the house. I could not see why they had to go via Mönchengladbach and not Krefeld.
The pain is constant. I have been munching painkillers and wired to tens machine for 6 years. Now I've been told to go cold turkey on painkillers for a month. I do not think the doctor meant me to top up on rum and brandy to dull the pain. This illness is so bad I wouldn't wish it on an enemy.
My mothers life gets very spicy once she reaches puberty and probably not suitable for the young. Do you want to know it all?

Goodness... She looks so like Hilary it’s unreal!!
Have you ever though of writing a historical account style book on Granny’s history? Your writing putting together these bits is really good, and I’m sure you could flesh it into a novel or several short stories.
Good luck with going cold-turkey... is there any herbal remedy you could substitute it with? Alcohol is a depressant and probably not a good fall back option with CFS because of that – but I’m sure you know that.
I always knew Granny had a “rather spicy” heritage... I think those fancy dress clothes she gave us with the zips on the front were the give away. J
